Our Farmhouse

When my husband and I got married, we liked to play a little game where we would ask, “Where do you see yourself in 10 years.” We both envisioned that we would be raising our kids on a large property, in a house with dormer windows and a large front porch.

Then we went to law school and ended up living in the suburbs of Las Vegas (Henderson). But we would still talk about our little farm house ideal from time-to-time.

One day we stumbled on a house on realtor.com and we thought it looked so cute.  It was exactly what we pictured when we talked about it.  That was in April 2016.  We moved into the house three months later.

I’ll tell you more about how we made it happen later (it sounds fast but we had actually been working on it for years). But for now, I just want to show you the dang house! So my next few posts are going to show you some of the features of our house and I’ll share what we have planned. I’ll start with the outside!

Listing Photos

Our Farmhouse
This is the front of the house, if you can’t tell. This is a picture from the listing by the sellers.  We haven’t done much to it.  We removed the A/C unit in the top right window because the weather is not hot to us–at least not compared to Vegas.
Garage to house
This is the drive way. The bikes are next to the detached three-car garage.
Garage to House
This is on the other side of the pine trees from the previous picture. We loved the big lawn, developed trees, porch, and balcony.
Southside
This is the other side of the house. It has a nice patio and is well shaded.

Since Moving In

We really haven’t done much to the outside.  I had some awesome friends visit and we hung up some plants around the porch and added a dinner bell.  Other than that, we’re just trying to get settled and learn how to care of and maintain the grounds.  I’ll add a post on that later.

Plans for the Future

I love the look of the house, but I still want to make some changes!  I’d like to paint the siding white and the shutters black.  Eventually I’d like to change the roof from cedar planks to a cool tin roof.

I also want to add some flowers in the front.  I’m not a gardener by any means.  We actually tried in Vegas but failed miserably.  I’m not even sure how to go about designing the landscaping, but it’s something we will get too–maybe next spring.

What would you do to the house? I’m no Joanna Gaines so I’m definitely open to your ideas!

  2. Totally get you with the “keeping plant thingys alive” I have quite the problem myself. Maybe as you continue to learn more about this mystical process– I’ll learn from your mistakes!
